[xcat-user] Laundry list of xCAT 2.0 questions

Hello all -

I have just gotten started with a 2.0 prototype test bed. I have a lot
of generic questions; many are related to comparing xCAT 1.x with xCAT
2.0. Does anyone plan on setting up an FAQ? I wonder if my questions
will be common to xCAT users migrating from 1.x.

I used xCAT 1.2 with Warewulf for diskless booting of IBM and non IBM
hardware

1) With 1.x and WW, the concept of a synctree existed. This was
to apply changes to a node without modifying the main root filesystem.
Is there an equivalent concept with xCAT 2.0? Or are modifications just
supposed to go into /install/netboot/<OS>/<ARCH>/rootimage/<files> (and
then rerun the packimage command)? The synctree was really nice because
you could have a vanilla pristine base root filesystem which only
changed when you wanted to start over with the yum commands/build
scripts.

2) Is there an equivalent to wwtop? This and the other ww
commands were highly useful! I saw monls, monstart and monstop but have
not looked deeply yet. Are they roughly the equivalent?

3) Is LDAP assumed to be a requirement? I copied in my master
node's passwd, group and shadow files into the rootimage dir, and reran
packimage. It worked fine and I could log in. Is this the expected
procedure for users not running LDAP?

4) xCAT 1.x provided getmacs via SNMP for switch ports, thus one
could still get MACs from non-manageable hardware via looking at it's
port on a switch. Is this supported, or planned for 2.0?

 Thanks.
