If you want getmacs to work thru the switch you have to have the switch.tab
set up correctly for the type of switch you are using. I think there are
examples in samples for the switch.tab There are usually slight
differences between vendors and even switches with in the same family.
Here is what we have in our switch.tab for cisco 4948 on port 1 vlan1
n1 cisco,1/0/1,1
Nodename Switch name, Switch number/ Line card/port, vlan
For nodehm you have to point to the switch as the method for getmacs:
example (Note the switch parm)
n1 ipmi,ipmi,NA,ipmi,ipmi,conserver,NA,ipmi,switch
,pxe,e1000,NA,Y,ipmi,ipmi,57600,n8r,

Dear all
I have been trying for a while now to set up an XCAT cluster with 12
nodes plus one management node using 12 IBM xSeries 3455 and one IBM
xSeries 3655. All are connected with both ethrnets on a cisco 4948
giagabit switch.
I am starting to get a little disspointed since i have read the xCat
redbook and all relevant documentation but i am still not able to
proberly communicate from the masternode to the compute nodes. I have
installes xCat and configre it up to the point where i should get all
the mac adresses. For some reason i can not use the getmacs command
correctly despite defining the correct cisco password in password.tab
and making sure that the cisco switch hostname resolves on my DNS.Anyway
i collected the MAC adresses manually and put thme in the mac.tab
file.DHCP was configured correctly with the makedhcp command (i saw the
dhcpd.conf and seems fine). Now i should move to stage 3. The problems
start here.First of all i am not at all sure if i set everything
correctly on nodehm.tab. I could find any reference what exactly to
xSeries 3455 support in term of management processor. Can some one
please provide me with s sample line of the nodehm.tab for xSeries3455
and let me know some tips regarding those servers. For instance as i
understood you can set an ipadress on the BMC which is using ethernet
port 0 but still i am not sure what happens with console redirection and
what bios setting i should use.
I can provide my configuration files if someone is willng to help me out
since i would really want to use xCAT for tis cluster. Another thing
when i try to run nodeset and gives me the error that i have to run this
command from the masternode despite the facdt that i am running it from
the masternode!.
I know that this is tool long but any help it will be greately
appreciated.
